HENNESSY X.O

In 1865, the star coding of the House's cognacs was introduced, a major innovation that allowed consumers to determine the exact age and category of the eaux-de-vie they were purchasing. That same year, the two men developed the blending culture as it is still known today.

In 1870, cultivating their taste for older eaux-de-vie, they created a unique and original blend with a rich and complex structure. They named it Extra Old, one of the first of its kind.

At its creation, Hennessy X.O. was not intended to enter the House's history and become a cognac emblematic of its expertise. It was initially a personal creation reserved for a close circle. These two creators introduced it to their loved ones for the first time in 1870 during a luncheon at the Château de Bagnolet. It was on this occasion that the first bottle of Hennessy Extra Old Cognac was tasted.

Tasting Notes

Before tasting, its amber color, the depth of its mahogany reflections and its tannic aroma foreshadow its strong character.

Hennessy-xo-nose its aromas of candied fruit and its subtle, delicately spiced nose create a harmonious, rounded character.

On the palate, its creamy texture reveals a hint of wild cocoa and the character of its woody notes. The persistence that emanates from it expresses all the complexity of its blend and its long aging.

TO THE FIVE CONTINENTS

In 1871, a year after its creation, the first shipment to the United States took place, where the House had already been present for nearly eighty years, with the first delivery of Hennessy cognac dating back to 1794. Then in 1872, Hennessy X.O made its way to Shanghai and Hong Kong, less than 15 years after the first shipments to China in 1859.

During its journey around the globe, Hennessy X.O was present at several historic events that testify to its influence. It was served in 1913 at the tercentenary of the House of Romanov in Russia. It was also featured in 1936 at the inauguration of the Queen Mary.

Today, Hennessy X.O cognac is distributed on five continents and in more than 160 countries.
